My name is Manuel. My wife Meg and I run Art Shed Brisbane and Circle Gallery. Both these ventures reflect our commitment to helping everyone get creative.

As student artists a few years ago, we were searching for a gallery to showcase our art work. We spent time visiting galleries and speaking with dealers. We realized that to be taken seriously in the commercial art world, you had to have shows to your credit. To be offered a show, you had to be known. To get known you had to have had shows to your name. Catch 22.

We created a gallery where truly emerging artists might showcase their work. The gallery is offered without curatorial interference and available to all creative people, not just the commercially favourable or fashionable.

Meg and I decided our gallery should charge no commission on sales and have the following:

• Lots of affordable space
• A professional lighting and hanging system
• Easy parking
• Kitchen and toilet facilities
• Air-conditioning
• A website and mailing list
• Close to the art hub that is West End
