Stop sooner than feels right: a light touch of Warm White or Coral along a lit edge does more than a full layer. Avoid blending, as the broken, unsmoothed mark is what makes highlights catch the eye.

Art Spectrum makes its extra soft pastels in Australia, and the warm lights here pair with pale Ultramarine, Flinders Red Violet and Yellow Green to catch both sunlight and reflected light. Use a toothy pastel paper such as Colourfix, and spray fixative before this layer rather than after, so the highlights keep their brightness.
