A Step-by-Step Guide to Rock Painting
Rock Your Art with POSCA!
Rock painting is such a fun and creative way to personalise your space, give unique handmade gifts, or just unwind with a colourful project. With POSCA paint markers, you’ll get vibrant, opaque colour that works beautifully on stone – no mess, no fuss.
What You’ll Need:
- Smooth, clean rocks
- Soft cloth or wipes
- POSCA Paint Markers (Recommended tips: PC-1MR, PC-1M, PC-3M, PC-5M)
- uni Pin Fineliner (Available in 0.03mm to 0.8mm)
- Spray varnish – Micador Crystal Clear or Krylon Clear Glaze
Step 1: Prep Your Surface
Give your rocks a quick wipe with a cloth to remove dust or dirt. Make sure they’re dry. Since stone is porous, it can soak up paint – you might need to apply multiple coats depending on your desired look.
Step 2: Plan Your Design
Sketch your idea lightly using a grey or white pencil (whichever shows up better on your rock’s colour).
Step 3: Add Colour
Use POSCA markers to fill in your design. For broad areas, go for thicker tips like the PC-5M; for details, use finer tips like the PC-1MR. Once dry, layer more colour if needed. Add final details with uni Pin Fineliners.
Step 4: Set It In Stone
After your design is completely dry, seal it with two coats of spray varnish. Choose matte or gloss depending on your preference and follow the product instructions carefully for the best finish.
