Custom Skateboard Art with POSCA

How to Design Your Own Deck!

Personalise your ride with a one-of-a-kind deck design using POSCA paint markers! Whether you're skating the streets or hanging it on your wall, a custom-painted skateboard deck is the perfect way to showcase your style.

What You’ll Need:

  • Wooden skateboard deck
  • POSCA Markers (PC-1M, PC-1MR, PC-3M, PC-5M)
  • uni Pin Fineliners (0.03mm – 0.8mm)
  • Pencil
  • Matte or Gloss Spray Sealer
  • Optional: White acrylic paint or gesso and brushes
  • Soft cloth
  • Fine grit sandpaper

Step 1: Prep the Deck

Wipe down the area you'll paint with a damp cloth to remove any dust. If needed, sand rough spots with fine-grit sandpaper, wipe again, and let dry.

Step 2: Prime (Optional)

To reduce paint absorption and make colours more vibrant, apply a layer of white acrylic paint or gesso to the board. Let it dry fully before continuing.

Step 3: Plan Your Design

Lightly sketch your design with a pencil directly onto the deck. This gives you a guide before adding colour with your POSCA markers.

Step 4: Bring It to Life with POSCA

Use POSCA markers to fill in your artwork. Start with broader tips for large areas and switch to finer tips for details. Add depth and definition with a uni Pin Fineliner once the paint is dry.

Step 5: Seal It Up

Let your artwork dry for 12–24 hours. Seal it with 2–3 coats of spray varnish (matte or gloss). For a glassy finish, consider using a 2-part resin and wear proper safety gear.
