Drawing Seeing and Observation with Dr Kay Kane | belArts Visual Arts School

This course is an introduction to how to approach drawing. It is designed for the absolute beginner or for more experienced artists wishing to re-examine the fundamentals. We will be working mainly from still life and concentrating on processes of visual enquiry, asking basic questions about shape (both negative and positive), proportion, depth, tone, and perspective as well as the place of silhouette, composition and abstraction in representational drawing.

About the tutor

Dr Kay Kane's work is representational though it is not realism, her practice embraces portraiture, landscape and still life painting as well as what is for her, the never-ending fascination with exploration of the deep visual resonances between human and environmental forms embodied in the ‘Restoration’ series, which is a series of large paintings of nudes in the landscape. She has exhibited work in many major exhibitions in Australia and the United Kingdom and in New York. She was the winner of the Queensland figurative in 2016.
