Beginners will be guided through the essential building blocks of painting, including colour theory, composition, value, and paint handling, while more experienced artists will benefit from Adam’s expertise in refining technique, experimenting with expressive use of colour, and mastering both direct (alla prima) and indirect (layering and glazing) painting methods. Known for his passion and dedication to helping others grow creatively, Adam works closely with each student to ensure their artistic goals are met and their confidence with oil painting continues to grow.

About the tutor

Adam Southgate is a career artist based in West End with a strong academic background in fine art. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Art with a focus on painting from QCA, where he graduated with distinction, as well as an Honours degree in Painting. Adam is passionate about sharing his knowledge and supporting others in achieving their creative goals. His teaching specialises in colour theory and traditional oil painting techniques, including both indirect methods (such as layering and glazing) and direct painting approaches (alla prima).
