10 Week Watercolour Course with Penelope Gilbert-Ng | belArts

Develop your watercolour technique with Penelope Gilbert - Ng! This class is best suited to an Intermediate skill level (basic watercolour experience or experience in a different painting/drawing medium), however beginners are also welcome. Penelope introduces this course with the understanding of paper wetness and watercolour mixing techniques, using small imagery on the first day. Initially, you will explore Still-Life, building up to Landscapes and finally Figures.

  • Daniel Smith Watercolours: Cobalt, Viridian, French Ultramarine (or Indanthrone), Quinacridone Magenta, Organic Vermilion (or Cadmium Red), Quinacridone Gold, Monte Amiata Natural Sienna, Aureolin, Permanent Orange, Buff Titanium, Titanium White
  • Watercolour palette
  • 300 gsm cold‑press watercolour paper (Baohong rough or medium or Arches rough or medium)
  • Light board large enough for a quarter‑sheet
  • Beige coloured masking tape
  • Large round brush with a fine point (size 12)
  • Rigger brush
  • Flat brush (1 in)

About the Tutor

Penelope Gilbert-Ng ‘s journey as an artist started aged 3, Studied at East Sydney Technical College late teens (Diploma of Painting, 1971) and furthering her development with her painting in isolation in Papua New Guinea (13 years). On returning to Australia 1986 studied with noted artists in Australia, New York (Pastel Society of America Scholarship), and New Mexico (International Association of Societies Convention).

Penelope believes that continual learning is essential for self-development as an artist. Past President and Fellow of the Royal Qld Art Society and sought-after tutor with Art Societies and Groups Nationally in all mediums.
