Finishing touches are what bring a pastel to life, and these extra soft tints were made for that last step. Six pale sticks go over earlier layers to lift highlights in skies, skin and water.
Features
- Pastels: a set of six round sticks, pale and very gentle
- Grade: XSP, the extra soft grade
- Colours: Warm White (501XSP), Coral (507XSP), Spectrum Orange (506XSP), Ultramarine Blue (526XSP), Flinders Red Violet (517XSP) and Yellow Green (572XSP)
- Tones: soft lights running through yellow, pink, blue, green and violet, with a warm lean
- Purpose: highlights and final layers laid over earlier pastel
Staff tip
Keep these for your final layer and use almost no pressure. Stop sooner than feels right: a light touch of Warm White or Coral along a lit edge does more than a full layer. Avoid blending, as the broken, unsmoothed mark is what makes highlights catch the eye.
Art Spectrum makes its extra soft pastels in Australia, and the warm lights here pair with pale Ultramarine, Flinders Red Violet and Yellow Green to catch both sunlight and reflected light. Use a toothy pastel paper such as Colourfix, and spray fixative before this layer rather than after, so the highlights keep their brightness. A Cool Tints set (6PO13X) is also available if you want the cooler version.
