Staff tip
Start the water lighter near the top and go darker towards the bottom. Finish with a few white pencil touches to catch the light on the waves.
A mixed media pad or smooth drawing paper both suit these pencils, and lightly textured paper takes more layers. Build colour lightly, then press harder at the end to burnish it into a waxy finish. Keep them flat or point up, and avoid drops, since a knock can crack the lead inside the timber.
