Mabef M48 Smart Folding Studio Easel

A 200cm canvas on an easel weighing 5.2kg, with a base that closes when you finish. Made for apartments, spare rooms and small studios, where the floor is what you have least of.

Features

• Sliding central mast gives a height range of 140cm to 230cm and holds canvas heights up to 200cm
• Base measures 49cm by 61cm and folds closed for storage against a wall or in a cupboard
• Weighs 5.2kg, light enough to lift with one hand
• Rated to 10kg: fine for big canvases on light cotton or board, but two metre canvases on heavy linen in a deep frame are beyond it
• Tray, 49cm long, slides between 15cm and 130cm above the floor
• Leans about 7 degrees forward and 10 back, which helps with glare on glossy work or a slight rake for pastel, but it never reaches horizontal
• Anti tip stability system, stopping the easel pitching forward
• Height is set by sliding the upper post and locking it, with no ratchet involved
• Oiled, stain resistant beech from Mabef in Italy
• Ships flat packed in around eight parts, one person, roughly half an hour
• Indoor use, for oil, acrylic and display work
• Warranty runs 24 months, and online registration with Mabef extends it to lifetime

Staff tip

Raise the tray to suit the work. It moves from 15cm to 130cm, and when you are painting high up a tall canvas, brushes at chest height beat brushes at your ankles.

The M48 is a sensible first serious easel that does not need a room of its own. If you are unsure whether your canvas is heavier than 10kg, weigh it first, since bathroom scales will do.
